Hi everyone, sorry it's been a few weeks since the last update but we had a pretty steady Friday so I got to take a few new pictures!
This is Susan and Eamonn, they have been coming here for about 5 years. They are very sweet and so kind.
Left clockwise: regulars Tom, Susan and Tom! Nice to see you guys :)
This is Brian and Janelle, I've seen them a few times before they are very nice.

Rodeo weekend!
We were a little unsure about tonight since the Redding rodeo was going on but it was pretty busy. Kenji slaved away most of the night!
This is Matt and Charlotte. I haven't seen them in quite a while but they have been coming for years, they are so nice. I forgot to ask if your name has an e or o I hope I spelled it right.
Ed and Candace came back with their friend John, they are so hilarious! If you ever see Ed at Jack's Grill ask him about the Pooh Belly, har har.
Last Friday Kenji made a pizza. Yes I said pizza! It had a fried seaweed crust, rice and topped with yellowtail and salmon and baked in the oven. I was impressed, Kenji is quite the artist!
That's all for this week, thank you for reading!

Almost there!
I love to photoshop, so I had fun making the new header logo, what do you guys think? Should I put phone/address in there?
I have a temporary menu setup (it's a .pdf file) it will take me a while to make a nicer looking one with pictures.
Directions, check. All that's left is the About section, I think I will put bios there.

It was chilly and rainy today but we had a steady flow of customers.

Under Construction!
I will be revamping the site in the next week so please don't mind the odd formatting while I get everything fixed up. The site will look very weird in the meantime. I have an online menu in the works as well!
Most of the links won't be up for a week or so.
I was thinking about photoshopping a new logo for the top to replace the text, any ideas on pictures?

I'm on a boat
Click pictures to enlarge:
Going to kick things off tonight with our Sushi and Sashimi combination dinner ($16.75), which comes on a cool boat. The top picture is without flash.
This is our Sakura Roll, it's fried snapper with sauce it is delicious!
We also have Amaebi and Hirame in for you folks that miss it, better come in soon!
Now on to our patrons:
Left clockwise: Kaysha, Mason, Amanda and Dustin.
Amanda and Dustin have become our Friday regulars, I've seen Kaysha and Mason at least once before too :).
Next up is Matt and Greg (right). I haven't seen Matt in at least a year, do you still walk from Herreid Music when you stop by for lunch?
Last but not least, our good friend Marc who always writes the nicest things about us for the Record Searchlight (most recently the date feature a few posts down) and the lovely Trudi. She is so sweet! Hope you come back soon.
Edit: Here is a picture of Kenji Marc snuck in while he was not looking!

Friday
Boy was it busy tonight! I was hustling so I didn't get a chance to take as many pictures as I wanted but I snapped some. We served a few tuna poke tonight and so far so good!
So on to the pictures:
This is Jillian and Noah, I rarely see them anymore since I stopped working lunch so it was such a nice surprise when they came in.
The roll in the middle is our Spider Roll, up front and right is our Rock and Roll (eel and avocado), and the rest are Chicky Cheese Rolls (chicken and cream cheese).
Left clockwise: Kyle, Yuki, Megan (and friends, I forgot to ask their names like a total ditz I'm sorry!). I'm not sure how long they have been coming here but my guess would be as long as or longer than Kenji has owned the restaurant. Yuki also bought Kenji a beer so all was well!
Marc, where were you?! Maybe next week.

Tuna Poke
Click pictures to enlarge:
If you've seen our specials board up behind the sushi bar you've probably noticed the scallop or ebi gunkan, Kenji just recently added salmon gunkan and a tuna poke (gunkan style).
The tuna poke is shown on the front left, it's spicy and delicious! It's wrapped in seaweed, I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the seaweed version but you get the idea. Also shown is the Erica Roll and Kamikaze Roll (this is our bestseller it's spicy fried oyster with avocado) in the back, up front left to right is Tuna Poke, Hamachi, Saba (mackerel) and Sake (salmon).
Here is a closeup shot.

Chopsticks tutorial
So I left my camera at home tonight and missed some good photo opportunities, I knew that would happen! Now that I'm sitting here at home wondering how to update this weeks blog I thought I would show you how to use chopsticks.
Most of you probably already know how but here's to all you forkers out there!
I hold my bottom stick like a pencil, and I prop both pencil and chopstick on my ring finger. You can also put it on your middle finger if that's more comfortable (click photos to enlarge).
Take your other chopstick and hold it with your index (and in my case both middle and index) and thumb. This is the stick that you will move to grab your food, move it up and down while leaving the bottom stationary and resting at the base of your thumb/ring finger.
This is the closed position, minus the food!
I found some food, sour cream and onion potato chips. Yes, I ate it after this shot too.
These are my Hello Kitty chopsticks from the 80's, they are too small for me now but they are so cute!
Next week I won't forget to bring the camera to work and blind you with some home photos I promise.
Hello to Susan if you stop by!

Record Searchlight D.A.T.E feature!
We were featured in the Record Searchlight on Thursday: http://www.redding.com/news/2009/mar/12/dining-out-sakura-serves-simple-spectacular-sushi/
It was very busy again tonight I wonder how many came because they read about us in the newspaper? Thanks Marc for the nice article.
This is Natalie and Tyler, they are the cutest couple you'll ever meet! Natalie's headband is super cute too.
This is Ed and Candace on the left, Dan and Renee on the right. They were ready to party tonight because Ed brought his own wine and I made sure the beers kept coming!
After we closed, Kenji came by for some free beer. Friday night good times!
Thanks for reading!

First update!
We had a fairly steady Friday night, with a lot of Sashimi dishes going out!
Of course we had our loyal Friday night regulars come in, this is Barbara and Steve. They have been coming here for 14 years! They are such a sweet couple.
Another Friday regular is Larry and Elaine, they have been coming here for 10 years. These two crack me up, but you have to watch out for Larry, if you're gullible like me he will get you with one of his jokes! I think I fall for every single one.
